To honour the legacy of the late Donnie Grant MBE who was the driving force behind Kingussie Community Development Company and the community hydro, the trustees of KCDC have launched the “Donnie Grant Memorial Award”.
This will be an annual one-off small grant to a senior student/students from Kingussie High School who are looking to follow training, education, apprenticeship or work experience in the areas of the renewables sector, a trade, outdoor pursuits or the land-based sector. These were all passions of Donnie’s and this grant is a lasting tribute to him and honours his commitment to the community of Kingussie.
The award is intended for senior pupils embarking on their new careers as they leave school and is in support of students’ career journeys to be used for things like travel to work or study, training or specialist equipment costs. Students are nominated by Kingussie High School and complete a short application to KCDC outlining their future plans.
This year the recipients of the award are Cameron Mitchell, Hayden Taylor-Ramsay and Logan McCormack. Cameron will be starting an apprenticeship in joinery, Hayden is starting an apprenticeship in farming and Logan is starting an apprenticeship in car mechanics. All three will be working and attending further study.

Trustees of KCDC along with Jan Grant, Donnie’s wife were delighted to visit the school recently and meet the first ever recipients of the Donnie Grant Memorial Award. We wish them all the very best as they embark on their chosen career paths.
